The split-flap motion matrix is an interactive algorithmic type installation created in p5.js. In this interactive experience, viewers engage with a camera-based system that reacts to changes in light and darkness. The focal point of the installation is an array of split-flap boxes, each featuring letters chosen at random. These boxes dynamically flip or remain stationary, revealing a randomized display of letters on each flip based on what the camera is depicting as light or dark. Viewers can move around the camera view and see their body movement reflected instantaneously in the installment.
